Outfits You NEED This Party Season!

Outfits You NEED This Party Season!

Hello everyone, welcome to the first Blogmas post! I can’t figure out if I’m completely and utterly mad for attempting Blogmas this year, alongside being on a full time uni course and attempting to upload to my YouTube channel 3 times a week throughout December. Have I bitten off more than I can chew? probs. But here we are, send me all the motivational vibes because I’m definitely going to need them this month!

I’m going straight in with the festive content – I was going to do an introductory post, but screw it. I want to get on with the festivities from the start. Going in right at the deep end with some of my favourite fashion party season picks.

Christmas is without a doubt my favourite time of the year, not only because of how upbeat everyone is, even doctors receptionists are a bit more jolly! Who’d have ever thought that was possible. But alongside this, glitter is more acceptable than ever. Throughout December I’ll be reaching for the most glitzy fashion garments I own, and taking full advantage of being so covered in glitter, you could probably see me from outer space!

I’ve been gawping at so many party season outfits this year, I think the high-street stores have definitely upped their game, so without further ado..here are some of my favourite Christmas party appropriate garments!

Right so ever since watching Bohemian Rhapsody last month (which if you haven’t seen, you’re missing out), I have been obsessed with flares; flares were a very 70’s thing, and I have seen so many around this season – I am so here for this trend. When I saw these VELVET, yes velvet, flares, I was all over them!

Midi skirts are a garment that I don’t think will ever go out of fashion, also super easy to style whether it be chucking on some heels for drinks with the girls or paring it with some trendy trainers for a day of shopping; they are incredibly versatile. Add a bit of glitter, and you’ve got the perfect skirt for work Christmas parties! This one from Topshop is gorgeous, the colours are so festive!

I’m a lover of jumpsuits at the best of times, granted I’ve never had the balls to buy one and wear one out – thats besides the point. There are so many snazzy jumpsuits around at the moment, perfect for a classy option for a New Years or Christmas party! This one from ASOS has a lovely feminine cut, with an open back adding a nice touch.

Lets get cracking with some of the more glitzy stuff. Obviously, the festive period is an excuse to go OTT with the glitter and sequins – therefore it will be no surprise I spent far too long scouring the internet for the most glitzy garments I could find. We’ll start with this silver sequin dress from Miss Selfridge – a very simple and plain dress, but this silver fabric is giving me all the party vibes!

Now, this may be my fav thing that I have so far came across, and I’m in 2 minds as to whether it’s too extra for a New Years dress, but then again, is there such a thing?? This dreamy dress from PLT will be sure to turn heads, it’s also so affordable, whats not to like! A lovely tight fit, you’ll defiantly be catching peoples eyes all night!

I say this every fashion post, but it wouldn’t be complete without a red garment, so in true Han style, I’ve found the most perfect Christmas party dress. Tight fitting, red, glitter, sequins, need I say no more? Again really affordable, but it definitely looks more expensive!

Lastly, we’ll finish off with another velvet garment – velvet seems to be everywhere this party season, I’m loving it! I saw this green velvet dress, and knew right away it had to be added onto here! Such a beautiful colour, the cut out at the front also adds a really lovely feminine touch to the dress – very figure flattering!

The party season is always my favourite to shop for and I have to have the self restraint of an absolute saint to not go OTT and buy everything in sight! What was your favourite garment?

All my love,

Han xx

Dealing With Stress

With Stress Awareness Week having not long passed, I thought this was probably the best time to write this post. Stress is something that we all experience at some point or another, and if you’re one of those types who is super chilled and never stressed, bugger off. I envy you, a lot. If I’m honest I’m one of those people that stresses over anything, to the point where I make myself ill. My first port of call when feeling like everything is getting a bit much is to cry, but shock, when isn’t my first instinct to anything to cry. Anyway, being a self proclaimed stress head, does mean that I have a few sure fire ways to help combat it.

We’ll start with getting out and about. I think this is probably one of the easiest ones, but nonetheless one that people tend to forget about doing. Living alone, means that a lot of my spare time is spent between the same 4 walls, which isn’t healthy for anyone, particularity when it comes to de-stressing, so getting out and stretching my legs, it doesn’t always have to be a 10K run, just a walk into town, a few lungfuls of fresh air will always calm me down.

Baths are super calming. This is something I take full advantage of when I am back home, seeing as my little flat barely has a working shower, let alone a fancy bath. Stop working at a certain time, run a nice hot bubble bath, grab a book, and chill. I know this is easier said than done, even I sometimes can’t bring myself to sit and do nothing in the bath, but it always calms me down. Alone time is also a perfect way to put things into perspective and realise the things that you’re probably stressing over, aren’t even worth the stress most the time.

Look after yourself. Again another really easy one, but I hold my hands up to not looking after myself very well. Whether it be getting an early night, or washing my hair, all these small things, taking a bit of time to pamper yourself is always an essential to de-stress. Along with looking after yourself, spend time with friends and family that keep you level headed. If ever I’m feeling particularly on edge, spending time with my friends, just grabbing a coffee to take my mind of things for a bit – another form of self care.

Write lists. I absolutely swear by a good list. Every evening I write myself a list of things I want to achieve the following day, it probably sounds like such a boring tip, but leading a busy life, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of it all. Setting myself achievable goals (remember to make them realistic), will always help me to prioritise the things that are stressing me out the most, allowing me to take a step back and work my way through the most important things first.

Lastly, take a step back from it all. I’m one of those people that will just keep on going until ultimately I burn out. I don’t take a step back from things, which results in my stress levels never lowing. I myself need to learn to put this step into practice, take a step back from university, blogging, YouTube, everything that I do day to day that I love, but does stress me out – realise that actually a  lot of it isn’t worth stressing over and everything will get done in due course.

Stress awareness is a topic that is definitely being spoken about more which I think it needs to be, I always notice that when I’m putting unnecessary pressure on myself, this in turn takes an instant effect on my mental health, something I cant afford to sacrifice!

What are your tips for de-stressing?!

Boots Wishlist A/W 2018

There are many ways to a girls heart, shoes being one of them. For me, boots in particular. It’s turned into a running joke the amount of boots I own – I joke about it because it’s a problem that I probably need to address, but refuse to. I mean once your boot collection starts spilling out from your wardrobe, surely thats a sign? One I’m going to continue to ignore though!

We are well into winter now, Christmas decs are up in all the shops, everyone is already starting to buy enough food to feed an army, and along with this of course comes the colder weather. Which, I’m not overly pleased with, but it does mean everywhere starts to get in their winter boots – there isn’t much I like about winter, apart from this.

Everywhere I look at the moment has such a fab selection of boots; that almost every time I head out shopping I full on have to drag myself away from picking up a new pair. My budget doesn’t cover the eccentric boot addiction I have. I’ve here compiled a list of my favourites I’ve come across so far, I say so far because we are still in November and I’m sure this list will continue to grow!

I feel like River Island crop up in a solid 90% of my blog posts, but their boot selection always gets a 10/10 from me, so the first few pairs are from RI, but I’m sure that won’t be a surprise to many of you!

Okay, so I’m not sure about all of you, but I’m still not over the whole leopard print trend that has taken the fashion scene by storm this year. I mentioned in a previous blog post that my leopard obsession was getting a bit out of hand, so when I saw these leopard print boots, I fell in love! This might sound really stupid, but I hope I’m not the only one that is really fussy when it comes to leopard print – if I say it has to be a certain size and placement, please someone tell me you know what I mean?! Or is it just a fashion student thing? Anyway, these are dreamy af.

Screen Shot 2018-11-10 at 19.40.42

This next pair are actually a pair that I’ve asked Santa (the bank of Mum & Dad) for, as a Christmas present this year. A couple of years a go, Office did a range of boots dedicated to David Bowie, alongside a wonderful silver pair, they also had a white pair of boots, ever since seeing these, white boots have been something of a need for me! But it has taken me ages to find a pair that compare to the Bowie ones, low and behold, River Island have just the pair for me!

Screen Shot 2018-11-10 at 19.41.40

I promise this is the last pair from RI, but these are perfect for the party season. Every shop you walk into recently, glittery dresses, bags, and jumpers are shoved in your face. Everywhere you turn in the shop, its glistening. So of course shoes, are of no exception. This sparkly pair, are much like the leopard print pair in terms of silhouette, perfect heel too – not too high, so you’ll be able to last the entirety of your Christmas party without having to later pay the price of not feeling your feet!

Screen Shot 2018-11-10 at 19.42.21

I love boots that have a bit of a quirky touch to them, so when I was recently wandering through Highcross and saw these gorgeous wine coloured boots in the window of Office, I  was instantly drawn to the slightly different heel they had, unlike most boots I had seen – it makes such a difference to the boot having a much more square heel.

Screen Shot 2018-11-10 at 19.45.27

Anyone who knows me well, will know that I am a magpie when it comes to anything red – take me shopping and I’ll instantly head towards anything thats red. So it’ll come of no shock to you all that a red pair of boots are featured on here, would be rude not to really! I’m also loving this patent look that they have going on, so much easier to look after and maintain compared to suede!

Screen Shot 2018-11-10 at 19.47.28

Moving onto a pair of boots that are slightly more pricer, but a pair that I think are definitely worth the price. Now, when the whole ‘sock boot’ trend came into fashion last year, I hated it. I thought they looked awful, which is why when I saw these I was so surprised I liked them. I’ve always been a fan of Tommy Hilfiger’s work, and these instantly caught my eye – such a lovely colour as well, perfect for autumn!

Screen Shot 2018-11-10 at 19.48.12

Well it wouldn’t really be completed if I didn’t include a pair of Doc Martens somewhere in here! I’m a self confessed Doc Martens whore, my bank account might suggest differently though. However, these have been on my wishlist for the longest time now, and I do think I will treat myself to them some point within the next year, I’m just waiting for the right time. My favourite band ever is Joy Division, their music will always be one that I weirdly resonate with in some odd way – it’s not often I feel a connection with music, but Joy Division, I do. So you can probably guess that when Doc Martens came out with this collaboration, I was all over it!

Screen Shot 2018-11-10 at 19.48.52

I’m loving writing these posts at the moment, although it is making me want to shop and lets face it, with it being this close to Christmas, that just isn’t going to happen!

Where’s your go to place for boots?!

Getting Out A Blogging Rut

Anyone who has been writing a blog for an extended period of time will eventually hit a bit of a wall with writing, it’s one of those inevitable things. I’ve had my fair share of writers block when it comes to blogging, which also means I have a few tips and tricks on getting out of these ruts. Working to create a constant flow of content that is of interest to your readers, as much as it is great fun, it can also be overwhelming when ideas start to dry up! No need to panic though, every blogger has probably experienced this, and if you haven’t, leave, we’re all envious of you.

At the start of the year, I had no new ideas for my blog, I kind of fell out of love with it, leading me to not actually want to write, which was very foreign to me. After taking some time away from social media and the blogging community, I slowly got my mojo back. I suppose that would be my first tip if you’re losing inspiration when it comes to blogging – take a break. This is easier said than done particularly if your blog is your main source of income. But if you can, take a step back, have a week or so away from all things blogging, because it can get exhausting, sometimes all you need is a bit of time away from the community!

Try something new! This one really helped me out of my rut. Last year my blog was very lifestyle orientated; as much as I loved writing those posts, it wasn’t the direction I wanted my blog to be going in. I’m a fashion student, so obviously clothes and styling is the thing that I’m most passionate about, so I started to change my blog to reflect this. Writing much more fashion orientated posts, and you know what, not only do I enjoy it more, but I get so much more engagement on my posts now I’m writing about something that is of true interest to me!

That leads nicely onto my next point, write about what you enjoy. I think you can always tell when someone is writing about something that they aren’t really too interested in. Take my old posts for example, I look back at my writing style from even just 3 months ago, and compare it to now – it has grown and developed so much just through writing about something I enjoy!

Give your blog a little revamp! Whether that be changing up your theme, writing style, or even something just as minimal as updating your photos or headers. When you blog a few times a week, you’re going to constantly be staring at the same theme, the same layout and it can get slightly repetitive. I know that for me, if I’m lacking blogging motivation, giving my blog a little shift around will always prompt me to write – I want to show off my new snazzy layout to you all, so why wouldn’t I want to write?!

Mind Maps are your saviour. I’m a lover of mind maps at the best of times anyway, particularly being a creative student, mind maps are perfect for fuelling new concept ideas – apply this concept to blogging, and you get the same results. Once you get one idea down, thats it, you can’t stop!

Take a look at the blogs your subscribed to, and see what they have been writing about recently. I always find that reading other peoples posts will encourage me to write – do a bit of research as to which posts are going down well at that particular time and draw inspiration from this.

Lastly, talk to the blogging community. The blogging community, however bitchy it may be at times, it is also a really lovely safe place. There will always be people there for you to talk to about your blog, blogging ideas and this is a sure fire way to generate new content. Blog pods are always great for this too, this will allow you to catch up on posts from your blogging friends, leading you to chat to them about new ideas!

Blogging is hard at the best of times, and I think we all now how disheartening it can be when we’ve come to a complete standstill with ideas – particularly when all we want to do is write and we can’t! I hope this post has been of some use, I think as much as I’ve written it for other people,  it’s definitely be something I’ll be referring to in the future when the inevitable blogging rut rears its head again!

What are your top tips for getting out from a blogging rut?

A Shy Girls Guide To Bold Fashion

A Shy Girls Guide To Bold Fashion

As my fashion taste has grown and developed, my love for statement items has grown tremendously. The girl who once would stick to jeans and a top, now reaches for garishly bright jackets and statement boots. Whether it be a very in your face print or the newest pair of embroidered boots; I’m all over eye catching fashion items. However, I have had my fair share of fashion flops, particularly when it comes to styling garments that could be considered a bit in your face. So I thought I would share my top tips on styling these not so conventional items!

T-Shirts Are A Staple

T-shirts tend to be a staple at the best of times anyway, but particularly when it comes to styling bold trousers I always find that plain t-shirts are the way to go. They let the trousers do the talking, and by having a very plain top, this will broaden your jacket choices, more so than if you were to reach for a printed or bold top. Something that always needs to be considered when living in the UK.

Style With Black and White

I think this is a very basic one, but black and white is always the easiest way to go when styling bold jackets and shoes. One of my go to outfits at the moment consists of a lime green suede biker jacket, whenever I wear it I always stick to a basic black and white base outfit. Normally black jeans, white top and black boots.

Pull Out Other Hues to Feature

This one is great for if you’ve gone for a very bold and out there printed garment. These will normally consist of bright colours, take printed shirt for example, pick out a colour/hue from the shirt and reflect this throughout your outfit. Whether it be through shoes or accessories, this is always a brilliant way to feature eccentric prints and make them work.

Stick To Simple Silhouettes

When it comes to colourful prints of statement items, most of the time you will want that one garment to do the talking, you won’t want to distract from it too much. So go for items that have a simple silhouette, a basic fit, so that the centre of attention is still on your statement item and not elsewhere.

Denim Denim & More Denim

Denim is one of those fabrics that can always be used to tone down an outfit, to make an outfit look slightly more casual. This is perfect if you want to wear bold prints on a day to day basis. I know full well I always overdress for any occasion ever, but chuck on a denim jacket or pair of jeans and your good to go.

Much like the denim tip, trainers can always be used to dress down a bold outfit. I know that I always reach for my Vans or Converse when I need to make an outfit look more casual – or when styling bold printed shirts.

Remind Yourself of The Colour Wheel

Lets go back to year 5 art classes. If you’ve got a very colourful item, look at the colour wheel and see what colours will complement it, then start to consider this when to picking your accessories. You want to go for colours that will complement the choice that you’ve gone for. Equally, if you’re feeling particularly ballsy, go for completely clashing accessories!

Don’t Hold Back

So I’ve spoken about styling statement items in a more casual way, but if you’re slightly more confident in your fashion choices, go all out. Like full out. Whether it be your whole outfit is in one particular colour, or you choose clashing colours, theres no doubt you will look very cool if you can pull this one off! Personally, I don’t think I would have the confidence to do this, however much I would want to!

This post was inspired by my recent purchase of these gorgeous red boots. Yes, yes I did purchase another pair of boots. My collection is now spilling out of my wardrobe, its a problem. Anyway, I digress. The boots are bright red, incase your hadn’t realised. I’ve gone very simple with my styling here – I’ve gone for the whole black and white tip. Black skinny jeans and then a white flared jumper (which I’ve also been wearing far too much lately). Sticking to a basic outfit, to allow the boots do the talking. I actually have a red bag, which perfectly matches these boots, however silly me left it at university – so just imagine I’ve put a bit more thought into my accessories!

What are your styling tips for bold items?

Winter Fashion with Femme Luxe

This post is one that I have been meaning to sit down and write for the longest time now, forgive me for my slacking with blogging lately; university is getting the better of me!

I was recently contacted by clothing brand Femme Luxury, who very kindly gifted me a selection of beautiful knitwear garments – which being a knit student, of course I jumped at the chance to work with them! If you weren’t familiar, Femme Luxe is a women’s online fashion brand, with a current, classy and forward thinking approach to fashion. In today’s post I’ll just be focussing on their knitwear selection, perfect seeing as the cold weather is now in full swing – I’m not happy about this, but new knitwear is making it more bearable!

Before Femme Luxe had contacted me, I had seen them crop up on my Instagram the odd few times, so I have had a gander at their products prior to me working with them. I was dubious though, as I tend to shop at the same shops all the time, a bad habit as I really should start trying new things out – I’m a girl who hates change, incase you hadn’t noticed! But Femme Luxe did not disappoint, and I will definitely be placing an order of my own at some point.

Quality is always a big thing for me, being a fashion student too, I’m always the first to jump on garments if they aren’t up to standard. The quality of the garments I received are all so amazing – for the price as well, you really can’t go wrong. Knitwear can often be an irritant on my skin and cause an eczema flare up, therefore I always struggle to find jumpers I can wear, however the jumpers I picked from Femme Luxe are incredibly soft on the skin and not irritating at all…hallelujah!!!

I had great fun playing dress up with my garments when they arrived, doing a bit of outfit planning, so here’s what I’ve gone for and how I’ve styled them myself!

We’ll start with my favourite garment of them all, the White Cropped Flare Sleeve Knitted Jumper. I’m an absolute sucker for anything with a bell sleeve, so it was no surprise when this was the first item that landed in my basket! The flared sleeves are giving me all the ABBA vibes, just the flared trousers and I’m ready to be cast in the next Mamma Mia – whats not to like! I paired this jumper with a pair of red cigarette trousers from Missguided, converse and a baker boy hat, I’ve never looked so ‘blogger-esc’ in all my life!

Moving onto this cute little number, the Twist Front Long Sleeve Jumper, even though it is officially jumper season, this is one thats slightly less practical for the cooler weather, but who cares if I’m cold, at least I’ll look good while doing it! This was a pick that was slightly out of my comfort zone, and very different to any other jumper I own, but I absolutely love it – it has such a flattering and feminine cut! I’ve gone very casual with this outfit, pairing it with my favourite Mom jeans, and a pair of suede boots, nice and easy, an outfit you can’t go wrong with!

I’ll do the next 2 jumpers together as they are completely identical, just different colour ways. Again these are both different to anything I own, both very simple jumpers from the front, lovely colour combinations. But the twist is on the back, where it laces up in a v-shape, there’s also some texture added into the back through the use of laddering, and knit students will now how simple yet effective this is, it really does make the jumper. I’ve gone fairly simple in terms of styling both of these, one paired with black skinny jeans and Doc Martens, the other with a pair of black cigarette trousers from Missguided and heeled boots – perfect autumn fashion!

Would it really be a haul if I didn’t pick up something red?? No, no it wouldn’t. This is definitely the least practical of them all, but one that I’ll for sure be reaching for when the weather gets warmer again next year. I’m instantly drawn to anything red, so there was no stopping me when I landed my eyes on this Button Down Red Dress. Very figure flattering and incredibly easy to style, here I have just paired it with a denim jacket and converse. This is a garment that could also be dressed up equally easy – getting night out ready in just a few minutes!

So that concludes my little style blog post for today. Thank you ever so much to Femme Luxe for sending me out some really beautiful garments that I really can’t wait to wear throughout winter – I really recommend all my fellow fashionistas check them out!

What was your favourite garment here?

All my love,

Han xx

Red Trousers and Killer Queen

Red Trousers and Killer Queen

Grab a cuppa, you’re all in for a rambley, all over the place blog.

A little bit of a catch up, look back at October, goals for November, and also talking about the iconic film that goes by the name of Bohemian Rhapsody, which I need to quickly add, is incredible.

October has been a bit of an all over the place month for me, good nonetheless. I’ve just been rushed off my feet with about a million and one jobs, deadlines and university projects. I started back at university at the start of October and let me tell you they have thrown us in at the deep end; a lovely way to start of second year. A ball of stress, but hey ho, whats new. I’ve been loving university since being back – if you’ve been a reader for a while, you’ll know that in March I had full intentions of dropping out, but boy am I glad I didn’t. I’ve changed and grown so much as a person since then (cringe), however it’s resulted in me having a lot more confidence in myself and also a bit more self belief, shock, I never thought the day would come.

I wanted to briefly touch upon my mental health here too, because since moving back to university, I have been so much better mentally. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a fair few days where I’ve literally had to drag myself out of bed to face the day, still got through them though didn’t I! I’ve learnt a lot of coping mechanisms lately – it’s really helping me stay on top of things, as a result my mental health has been fairly stable recently, can I get a woo yah.

I also got the chance to take a trip to London this month, which I don’t often get the opportunity to do. I had a brilliant time wandering round all the high end department stores, pretending I’m rich enough to be walking around Liberty’s, I’m not. The outfit that I opted for, was possibly the most blogger-esc outfit, you ever did see, but was also my favourite outfit of this month. These red trousers, have sat in my wardrobe for the longest time, and this month I finally grew a pair of balls and wore them out, and rocked them, even if I do say so myself. Paired with a basic white jumper, classic converse (of course), with my blogger look being topped off with a baker boy hat. I’ve never felt more like an art student and blogger in all my life, loved every second of it though. These red trousers will definitely be getting a lot more wear!

Alongside my to do list for university – which is as long as my arm, I’ve also been balancing my Blog/YouTube, and working for Leicester Media Productions and DMU Vloggers. Admittedly I couldn’t tell you how the f I’m managing it all, but here I am, somehow coping. These past couple of months my social medias have really taken off, it’s incredibly rewarding to see how much my hard work is paying off. Media has also recently become a very big interest of mine, so much so, I’m potentially looking at doing my placement year in this field, exciting times!

Last weekend my parents came to visit me in Leicester, being from Brighton, I don’t often get to see them when I’m studying, so I had a lovely weekend with them both, drinking too much gin, eating too much food, and having lots of laughs. Alongside lots of shopping, my parents and I took a trip to the cinema to see Bohemian Rhapsody. Now, before last Saturday, I hadn’t ever really listened to Queen (don’t come at me), I just associate them with singing ‘We Are The Champions’ and that just takes me back to sports day at school as the winners would always sing that, days I’ve tried my best to block out my memory, I guess you could say sports day was never really my thing and I’m a massive sore loser. Anyway, I digress. What I wanted to say, was that even if you’ve never shown much of an interest in Queen, you need to go and see this film. Like, need to. I was in tears, yet was just in awe of the band. And how fucking cool is Freddie Mercury.   No word of a lie, Queen have been on repeat in my headphones for the past 4 days, and you know what I have no shame. Just 20 years late to the party.

I’ve just re-read this post and my god is it all over the place, it was one of those evenings where I had a million and one things I wanted to write about, so chucked it all in one post. Anyway, I thought I’d finish this post off with some November goals. Starting with getting my butt into gear and applying for more placements. I’ve not been great at this, primarily because I get to scared to apply for them, but this month I will knuckle down, I promise. With it being November, I’ll also be spending the month drafting up Christmas content for my channels, as, fingers crossed, I’m really hoping to do Blogmas this year, so the festivities have already begun for me. Please tell me I’m not the only blogger that cant create festive content without being in full on Christmas mode? Alexa, play Fairytale of New York.

All my love,

Han xx
