What I Want To Achieve In 2019

As a fresh new year is very fast approaching us all, I’ve taken a moment to think about what I really want to achieve throughout 2019.

I love a fresh start as much as the next person, and think that January is the perfect time for reflecting over the past year, setting yourself new goals and targets and figuring out ideally, where you would like to be by the end of the year.

As I have mentioned previously, I’ve never really been one for setting resolutions, however I do like to set myself achievable goals throughout the year. Setting goals helps me to prioritise what I want to achieve, not only this, but it encourages me to think about the reasoning behind why I want to achieve those particular things. Plus, resolutions, they only ever last the first week, then we’ll all spend the next 51 weeks of the year telling ourselves we’ll try again next year!

Finish My Second Year With A First

University has been a, challenging time, shall we say. I’ve had plenty of ups and downs to say the least – however, since returning for my second year, I’ve really hit the ground running. Being able to walk away in May, with a First for the year is my biggest goal for 2019. With hard work and dedication, I know it is achievable. Proving to myself that I am capable of achieving this, will set me up perfectly for my final year!

Secure Myself a Work Placement

As part of my degree, I have the amazing opportunity to secure myself a placement for a year, within the industry. This is something I would love to do, although, it is one of the most competitive things to secure. With 1 job role being offered to thousands of up and coming designers its tough work. So far though, I have worked hard at applying, even secured myself a few video interviews, so here’s to hoping that this time next year, I will be sat reflecting on this post having just finished a day at my internship!

Travel More

This is so much easier said than done when you’re a broke student. But I want to see the world, there are so many amazing places that I am yet to see and I have everything crossed in the hope that within the next 12 months I can start to see something other than just my tiny corner of the world.

Prioritise Self Care

I’m sure I’m not the only person who frequently neglects self care, pushing it to the side and convincing myself I don’t need it. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been taking more time for myself, even if my form of self care that particular day is just washing my hair. I need to take more care for my self and mental well-being. It’s easy for us all to forget how important ‘me time’ is – but it’s something we all need, even if we are living out lives at 100mph.

Half Marathons and Stick To A Training Rota

Ever since starting back at university, my main hobby aside from art, is running. However, the work load for second year has really amped up and my training has taken a slight back seat. Starting from the new year, I want to train at least 4 times a week. Even if it’s just getting out for a quick speed training session, it’s all progress! Not only this, but, by the end of 2019, I want to have run my first ever half marathon. There I said it, it’s out in the open and there’s no going back!

Drink and Eat More

Considering how much I love my exercise, you would think I would also be brilliant at eating and drinking well – don’t be fooled. I’m the worst at drinking enough water and spend most of my days dehydrated, something I need to be working on. Not only this, but I can never really be bothered to cook at university – I’m sure I’m not the only student that thinks this. But, next year, I want to make a conscious effort to eat 3 meals a day, after all, I’m a busy lady and I need the fuel!

 Believe In Myself

I think this just may be the most important one for me. I really lack confidence in what I do, whether that be blogging, designing or even running. Being your own worst critique gets fairly tiring pretty quickly. Although being harsh on yourself is good, to an extent, I sometimes think I am too so. Self confidence and self belief is something I need to develop.

Stop Being Such a People Pleaser

You can’t please everyone, thats a fact. I’m always putting other people before myself, which is a wonderful trait to have in my eyes – however, when you start sacrificing your own happiness for other people, thats when the trait isn’t so desirable. Throughout 2018, I made myself very unhappy, all so someone else can be happy, which when you think about it, it’s kind of stupid! Putting yourself before others, isn’t always selfish.

Blog Twice A Week

If not more! 2018 saw the return of me to the blogging world and whilst I’ve spent the past few months finding my feet again, I think I have finally come up with a bit of a schedule that works for me. Balancing a full time degree with a blog is a challenge in itself, so without putting too much pressure on myself, blogging twice a week seems fairly reasonable! Alongside this, continuing to grow my social media platforms throughout the year is another big goal. Gaining a trusted, genuine following is hard within the blogging community – that we all know. It takes a lot of time an patience, but thats time I’m willing to sacrifice and work for!

So, there we have it. Some simple, yet achievable goals for the up and coming year. It’s important when setting goals for the next year to make them achievable – if they aren’t, the chances of you reaching them are slim!

What are your goals for the next year?!

All my love,

Han xx
