Festive Christmas Traditions

Festive Christmas traditions are something that I think every family has – whether it be an extravagant way of celebrating or just seeing family. I thought it would be nice to share some of my Christmassy traditions that I undertake every year.

Now, in all honesty, my family have never been one for having massive traditions when it comes to the holidays. Christmas is a time for family, good food and lots of laughter. Having said this though, there are a few things that I do every year when Christmas rolls round again – no doubt, they all have me getting into the festive spirit in no time!

Seeing Family

I have a very small family, like tiny. So in actual fact, I get to see most of them quite frequently. However, my Mum’s side of the family live all the way in Essex, which means I don’t often get to see them, normally once a year, at Christmas. This year, unfortunately I was at university when they came to visit, but by the sounds of it they all had a lovely time regardless. Seeing my family from Essex, always reminds me of Christmas and being a child – as every year Mum and I used to go and visit them and have a huge roast dinner, we haven’t done this in years now!

Christmas Eve Movie Night

My family all lead very busy lives, so it’s rare that we are ever in the same room all at once. But Christmas Eve is an exception. Every year, Mum puts out a lovely spread of food, we all fill ourselves to the brim then sit and watch Christmas movies all evening. It’s become a bit of a tradition for us to sit and watch a bit of a light hearted Christmassy film first, then once my youngest brother has gone to bed, we normally stay up and watch Love Actually, my parents, and also my favourite Christmas movie, ever!

Ice Skating

I absolutely love Ice Skating, so of course whenever it comes to my town, before Christmas I just have to get myself down there. The past few years I’ve been with my best friend Soph, we both have such a laugh! This year I’ve got plans to go a few times to the Brighton Pavilion Ice Rink, whilst I am back home, which I am mega excited for!

Friendmas

I absolutely love shopping for other people, so when it comes to Soph and I’s festive little gift swap I always get so excited. Christmas is the time of year that we both go all out with presents, I’m sure I can speak for us both when I say that a lot of thought goes into our gifts for each other!

Christmas Lights

Near where I live theres an estate that really doesn’t hold back when it comes to the Christmas lights, they go all out and it is the most magical experience. The past few years, I have always driven around to see them, it never fails to amaze me, it also puts me in the best festive mood!

Visiting My Grandparents

This isn’t really a ‘tradition’ as such, but as soon as my Nan puts up her Christmas tree I always go straight over there to see it. Her tree has stayed the same for as long as I can remember and every year, she still puts chocolates on the tree for the grandchildren, even if we are all grown up now. Theres something very homely and safe about visiting my Nan’s during the festive period!

I’m sure my festive traditions are no where near as excited as some of yours – but it’s little things that I look forward to every year! What are your Christmassy traditions?!

All my love,

Han xx

  1. I love your christmas traditions. It sounds like you really get into the christmas spirit with the various activities you do. On christmas eve my family alway makes a bunch of snack foods and we sit around watching movies, eating and enjoying each others company. Hope you have a great holiday!
