I’ll hold my hands up to it; I am a bit of a fake tan addict, scrap that actually. I am a massive fake tan addict. Unfortunately, I wasn’t blessed with the genetics that some people have where they just look at the sun and they pretty much look like they’ve spent the past 3 weeks in the Caribbean. No, I was blessed with the genetics that leave me pale all year round, no matter how much time I spend in the sun, envying those that naturally tan, but fear no more, that’s when my holy grail tanning products come in handy.
If you haven’t already gathered, I have the skin pigmentation of a ghost, I’m incredibly pale, so much so that people frequently question whether I am ill when I leave the house without a tan, embarrassing, I know. If you’re in the same boat as I am (or just looking for some new tanners to try), then I’ve got your back. I’ve compiled a list of my go to tanning products, tried and tested by yours truly.
We’ll start with my favorite tan of all time, the Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam. There are 3 different shades that this tan comes in, the Light/Medium, Dark and Ultra Dark. I swear by the dark one, it creates a lovely natural looking tan, which is perfect for my light skin. I fear that I’m actually too pale to use the Ultra Dark one, as there is a thin like between a tan looking natural and it not; I think this line would be crossed, if ever I opted for the Ultra Dark. I always find that foam tanners are better to work with as it gives you a lot more guidance on areas that you may have missed, they also go on incredibly silky smooth, which is precisely why I love this one. It feels like a moisturizer on application, which quickly soaks into the skin, leaving you looking bronzed almost instantly, additionally it doesn’t smell of biscuits at all, it has a coconut scent to it, leaving you looking glowing and not smelling odd. Also at only £13.99 you can’t go wrong, the bottles last me for at least a months worth of tanning.
The next tanner is the one that fueled my love for fake tan, as it was the first one that I ever bought. Slightly more expensive, but definitely worth the money, Fake Bake Flawless Self Tan Liquid. This is a mist tanner, which can be risky as it doesn’t have as much of a guide colour as foams, and does unfortunately have that fake tan biscuit smell upon application. Aside from this the actual tan itself is amazing, I do find that when using this I like to apply 2 coats to my skin to achieve the natural looking tan that I am after. I also find that when I look after it properly, it does last me at least a week. There is similarly, a darker shade in this tan for those that are brave enough to go darker.
The third and final tan that I love is a gradual tanner, which I tend to use if I feel my tan needs a bit of a top up. But it is also great to use in winter when I don’t want to go for a full tan look, just a healthy looking glow. The Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula, Natural Bronze Body Lotion, it is probably the most hydrating tanning product that I have ever used. If you suffer with very dry skin then this is the tanning product for you as not only does it tan, but it also hydrates your skin, leaving you feeling silky smooth. I find that after around just 2 applications of this lotion my skin has a lovely glow to it, I tend to apply this for around 3-4 days, and then have a break when I have achieved the colour desired. I’ve tried quite a few gradual tanners and I haven’t always got along with them, hence why I always use actual self-tans, but this one is a definite game changer.
Over the past few years I have suffered my fair share of tanning mishaps, and thought it was only fair that I shared with you all my top tanning products so that you don’t have to go through the trial and error phase that I did.
All my love,
